More reading

This is a follow-up on the entry I posted a few days ago. I continue to enjoy very much the books of Nicholas Sparks. But recently I have also indulged myself in a couple old favorites, from my teens. At the library recently, when I was unable to find a Sparks book I hadn't read, I fell back on science fiction (a lifetime love), and got Sphere by Michael Crichton, whose The Andromeda Strain I first enjoyed back in the early seventies. And right now I am enmeshed in Contagion by Robin Cook, a doctor turned novelist who is described as "the undisputed master of the medical thriller," and whose prophetically-titled novel Coma I read in my teens also. Ah ... variety is the spice of life!

I wish I loved reading as much as you do, Allen. I do a lot of it online--many hours a night--but none of it involves sci-fi or intrigue. Instead, my interest centers around political articles from liberal commentators and foreign newspapers.

My loss, I guess. I know I would rest more easily at night if I could lose myself in an absorbing novel but politics and current events are constantly calling me.

Hi Allen,

I just finished reading a new medical thriller, LOCKED IN. I'm not one to read much thriller fiction, but with the medical slant on malpractice issues I thought I would give it a go. Now I'm a fan of medical thrillers and scanning the web for more recommendations!

Also, I wanted to give you mine. Written by a new author, Dr. Michele Esposito, as his bio reads, "has spent ten years as a private practice radiologist in the Tampa Bay area, and uses his vast experience to give readers an insider's view of medicine and malpractice law." Make me wonder how close to truth this story really could be...and that's a sign of great fiction!

I went to his site to see if I could find out more about him. It's got a nice excerpt if you want to give it a read. www.mikeespositomd.com
